Disneyworld weather and what to expect:
Winter weather:

Temperatures are variable. At worst, lows in the 40s at night and 50s during the day.Not a lot of rain in January. If it does rain, it usually doesn't last all day, just long enough to empty out the parks . Enjoy every step. the entertainment is not just in the rides. Pay attention to everything as you walk along. Don't be in too much of hurry and watch as your kids experience Disneyworld make-believe magic. February was the best time and the weather is always great. Most hotel pools are heated so that is a bonus. The parks weren't busy at all and the line ups were only 1hr long at the most depending on the ride. Tons of Disney characters were out due to the weather.

Spring weather

Disney in March - the weather is usually chilly in the early mornings and evenings, but nice during the day. March weather might rain and as long as you could deal with the chilly temps during morning and evening hours you will be fine. You just have to pack accordingly, bringing both clothing for warm and chilly weather. You might even want to dress in layers. Warm sweatshirt w/ a t-shirt underneath would probably be enough. Try to avoid coats.

In the Summer:

In June and July it is usually just hot hot hot. Orlando in August is not any worse than the weather anywhere else. Humid and hot. In fact, I think Disneyworld in August is better because there is none of that oppressive, hazy, "can't breath" air like most cities have in the summer. I don't think the ozone is as bad. Don't let people tell you how bad it is. I have experienced far worse days in the Southeast region. Plus it rains every afternoon, like clockwork, and things cool down by evening. Things are basically subtropical. I like the weather in Orlando, actually. The worst hours of the day are between 12 and 2pm. Remember to bring and drink lots of water. Alternating indoor and ourdoor attractions is a must. Take an afternoon break to swim at the hotel. Buy dollar store ponchos for the rain and to the parks early. Buy spray fans (preferably before you go). As far as hurricanes - Check the weather forecasts and plan accordingly. In August, it might rain for about 30 minutes every day, which would scare some of the crowds away.

Disney In The Fall

An October visit to Disneyworld is perfect. The weather is starting to get more comfortable. Crowds are usually very manageable for the most part. Epcot does get busy with F&W especially at night and it does get very busy on the weekend nights. Disneyworld might be rather busy the week of Columbus Day as many schools have off or are on "fall break" that week. It's still Day Light Savings time so it stays lighter later which is nice. Halloween is also very nice and the Halloween party at the BW is great...it was free!

What about transportation?

Absolutely get a rental car. Rental rates are cheap...especially if you look around a bit. Use the Orlando Magicard, AAA, and/or Entertainment Book to start finding good deals. Staying off-site requires a rental car, while staying on-site does not. Hotel shuttles are very unpredicatable, and you are a slave to their schedule.
